Sideboards & Buffets

Sideboards & Buffets

A sideboard or buffet adds closed storage and a serving surface to a dining room, and this page lists more than 150 options, including servers, in contemporary, transitional, modern and traditional styles.

Styles and finishes

• Wood is the main material, with glass, stone and metal tops or accents on many pieces.
• Brown, walnut, oak and white lead, followed by gray, cherry, black and espresso; gold frame finishes also appear.
• Mid-century modern, classic, rustic and new traditional designs are included, and some titles list a hutch.

Furniture of America has the largest group, followed by ACME and ESF.

Choosing the right size

A buffet is usually about 32 to 36 inches tall, so it works as a serving surface next to the table. Leave 36 to 42 inches between it and the dining table so chairs can pull out, and pick a width that is slightly shorter than the wall.
